I started blogging to keep in contact with people I don't see anymore who live in different counties. And then I found I could make a bit of money writing, and writing about topics that I liked. Most of my stuff is local to Ireland and I get a little buzz sometimes outranking business sites that I write about, using their keywords. I have only a few regular readers and still find it strange that people do come to read my stuff.
After about six months of blogging I was knocked off balance for a while when I meet a group of people one night with a friend of mine. he introduced me as the guy "who writes that blog I told you about" - for a while my feeling of writing into the ether was gone and I became very self-conscious about what I wrote about. That has passed thankfully, as the writing became a bit wooden.
