Some directories are like FFA links or so called spam free directories, they accept all kind of links, they even don't make sure that the link is submitted to the right category and they only click the approve button, these sites are more likely to be considered as FFA links and usually they have no page rank and no position in search engines, they usually get semi or complete ban in the long term if they keep going with this criteria.
Of course getting a huge amount of back links from such directories will do no good for your website.
