a bit off topic : half a year ago I checked the inner ranking of about 150 directories and except for dmoz and yahoo the only ranking pages tend to be the index and the main category pages, linked to from the index (200 pages out of the 7000 pages I tested had a pagerank).

For all links on ranking pages you pay, and the rest don't carry weight in Google.

I still submit when I come across a directory I like, some directories do start to rank but that depends on the efforts of the directory owner. Maybe with the addition of on-topic articles the ranking improves.
