I don't think the MySQL/PHP affects bandwidth so much as it affects system resources.

I have only one server with Intel Celeron CPU (300MHz), and 128MB RAM, it has 2sites on it. The sites are getting very good traffic, and all the sites are php/MySQL.

Doing 4GB per day average, and server load is usually under .20
