How do you know it was not approved?

DMOZ is not a listing service; its not in the business of providing a service to webmasters; I can never understand the obsession and 'chips on the shoulder' so many have about something that DMOZ does not provide.

Why do you need to know. After you have submitted once, then your site is:
1) Waiting to be reviewed --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do
2) Moved to be reviewed in another category --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do
3) Listed --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do
4) Rejected --> life goes on and there is nothing more you can do

Submit once; forget about it; move on
