Did you see the specs on that server? Its a P3 667 with 256 megs of memory. The next one up is a 1 ghz and 512 megs of memory. Your talking about processors that are almost 10 years old. I found a thread on Toms Hardware about the P3 667 that was posted on 03-12-2001. Does that give you any idea how old those chips are?
For the cost, sure why not? What do you really have to lose? I remember when those processors were cutting edge technology.
You might ever get some pretty good performance out of them. But with 256 megs of memory, your not going to run very much. I would go with at least the server 512 megs of memory.
Be sure to pay attention to the fine print at the bottom of the page - Control panel $45.00/mo Extra.
If that hosting company is reselling used servers, maybe they would let you ship them your own server and pay them to maintain it for you? They seem to be digging the bottom of the bucket - as far as servers go. so why not ask them - "if I ship yall a dell server, can I pay you to take care of it?" Because that is what they are doing. By supplying your own server, you will be saving them some overhead.
