Look how people react in forums when they told there site is not going to get listed. I know of a number of death threats made against editors (one came from a christian site!). Editors did not sign up for that. DMOZ chooses not to send email notifications. There is a 'thank you for your submission' screen after submitting.

If a link is rejected, it is only on rare occasions that will be eventually listable. The last think DMOZ needs is all those sites rejected to immediatly resubmit when they get a rejection email.
