Blogging, at least in my field, is an amazing way to drive traffic to landing pages. The catch is that just like with any tool you use to drive traffic to a landing page, you must know where your blog traffic is coming from, what they are looking for and have a realistic idea of what their motivations are so that you can customize your landing pages to speak to those variables. This being said blogging does not always drive highly targeted traffic to your landing pages since the traffic to your posts may not have arrived to your page by searching for keywords you anticipated.
This can mean that your landing pages may appear way less effective than say a targeted PPC campaign would. Long story short don't try to compare your results from blogging to your other tools as it is not an apples to apples comparison, but instead compare it against itself over time. If done correctly I truly believe it is well worth the time due to the fact it can generate tremendous organic traffic to your pages and thus decrease your market spend.
