I have to say, I never have any issues with Java. If it caused my browser to fail, it might bother me, and I might disable it. That doesn't happen to me, though.
I used some Java on all my sites at one time, but eventually grew tired of it. Now I only use it on one site, for a slideshow presentation, and provide a link for visitors to view the site without it. I haven't experienced any problems, nor have I had any complaints.
