earlier I was answering the wrong question there. I thought you were talking about making pages to create pagerank. you were asking just the oposite. you do not lose pagerank by having more pages, it just means that your internal pagerank spreads across more pages.

the reason some smaller sites do better than larger sites is because they usually have a rather flat site structure, meaning that most pages are not more than a few links from the home page.
