This is important when your site is huge and you need to send the architect to a developer or marketing expert for promoting. Also helps with troublshooting specific problems. If you create and maintain a site diagram from the start it is very usefull. It also helps "as a developer" to show the client what you are building for them without them having to click on every page on the site. Think of it as the global picture of the site.
