Though they have the same root domain, Google will follow both of those links. It is only in cases where you find identical links on the same page where the first one will be counted and the second will be ignored.
So given that both links are treated the same, ie one isn't nofollowed and the other is etc. Then page rank should be split between them equally. Where you can run into problems with this is if you are putting a large number of links to the same domain on one page. This could raise red flags with Google and start looking like a link farm.
