Any website that takes on thousands of links should consider the following, regardless of which search engine they target:

* Acquire links gradually
* Vary anchor text
* Very significant proportion should be deeplinks
* Limmit the number of links on any one c-class ip block
* Limmit the proportion of sitewide links to a very small proportion of total
* Where possible get some links from mainstream news sites or other super reputable / long established sites that don't sell links.

Given the recent patent, I'm also tempted to suggest everyone go and bookmark the categories they have links in or plan to submit to.

You may also want to consider allowing longer descriptions to bring the link to text ratio lower on category pages.
