A competitive keyword can be different depending on what market you are in - for example a competitive keyword in my market would be 'vacation rentals' or 'Travel'

I'm not saying you cannot get traffic from Google on a new domain, all Im saying is you'll not rank for competitive keywords. You might rank foryou business or website name, but again is that competitive.

I run a travel blog called Travel Rants - because this has the word 'Travel' in it took me 11 months to start ranking for my website name. Getting listed in Google is a peice of cake - just get a link like NeO on a signature or a link from another website and G and other search engines will pick this up and list your site.
