Free directories? I'm already
convinced that they help.
Regarding my article submission thing, if the only point was to count backlinks I would agree that there should be no other links. But in addition to counting backlinks, I also want to see if this is a cost and time effective way to promote a site.
However, when I say this I mean is it an important part of an overall strategy. I think we already know that promoting a site only through articles isn't the way to go. In other words, I'm not really interested in what the article sites will do alone because realistically I will never use only article sites to promote one of my projects.

I am going to be doing this type of test with a new SEO resource site I put up. Not really a site I seriously want to promote, so I figure it would make a good test subject site for testing free directory submissions.
I have seen website penalized after submitting to 500 or 1,000 of those free directories, so I want to do that to this site and see what happens.
