people who care already know what forum software a community is running on... people who don't care don't worry about "powered by" links on sites.
Example: A webmaster forum where the visitors are web designers, coders, etc... they will already know what software you use. However, a site for travel where the visitor is anyone from a stay at home mom to a 65 year old VP of a dowel stick plant... they don't care what's powering the community or if it's listed at the bottom of the forums. They just want answers to their questions.
The only people that I think that really effects are people that want to start their own community after seeing yours (same topic or not) they may not know where to start until they click the powered by link.
