Since you are going to be buying a new pc. I would suggest saving the important data to cds. If you copy the whole hard drive from the laptop to a newer one you may run into driver issues. If you do not have a way to copying the data to cds then I would suggest going with
laplink filemover. It will allow you to move the important data from the laptop to the new pc. Hope this helps.
