Adsense - first few clicks determine day's earnings?

I've noticed something with Adsense that I find interesting.

I have one site that averages around 27% clickthrough.

When the first few clicks of the day are at a low amount, the rest of day's clicks also tend to stay at a low amount.

However if the first few clicks are for high amounts, it seems that those following will also remain high.

Has anyone else experienced this? I was wondering why this might be.

Thanks.
