I don't even think it's possible to change a computer's resolution via code, but then again what gives you the right to start changing people's computer settings when they go onto your site?

The best way to make it so that it'll be viewable by everyone that views it is :-

a) Used a fixed width of no more than 760 pixels
or
b) Create a fluid layout which will stretch and contract with the screen/window size. Use % instead of pixels for your measurments.
