I am in no way affiliated with bluehost, but the issue was not theirs to begin with. The domain registrar was WWD (GoDaddy) and not the hosting company. I've been hosting web sites since 1997, and have been registering domains as a reseller (and not an ICANN affiliated registrar) for years, and I know it can be confusing for the uninitiated. IMHO, it's the web host's responsibility to explain things like that to their customers. It's just good business.
