YouTube an invention? Strange. I doubt they could patent it. A good idea? Yes. But invention? Too strong a word. Essentially, YouTube acts as a forum with video threads rather than text threads. So they did expand on the idea of a forum, but its overwhelming success (read: hit count) remains the feature attraction, not its technical infrastructure.
