If you check back through all my posts you will pretty much find most of what Ive discovered starting a forum. I would hardly call myself a "success" in any way but the first rule is that forums are sorta a machine that creates itself. First thing is you gotta get posters through any means neccesassry. After you get a community started it will grow itself because everyone wants to post at a forum with lots of members. Posters will create content that gets spidered by search engines and will basically be making a site with thousands of pages for you.

Your going to really have to think outside the box when starting out though to get that first 500 members.
