And at the other hand, SEO is highly-over-egaggerated as a profession by most of those self-proclaimed seo professionals out there, even those who are 'well known'. Anyone with one braincel more than the avarage cow can learn seo in not more than an hour.
Reason that seo professionals don't tell you how easy it really is, is because they want your business. The not-so-easy part is to get links from other sites but apart from some time, and maybe some money to buy links it's about all there is to seo. Really.
Of course there is the issue of 'branding', to get your name and logo 'known' and that takes some strategy of which you can either consult marketing professionals or, like with seo, learn how to do that yourself.
In my experience, no professional can do either seo or marketing better than you can do that for your own company once you know how.
