The age is not the be all end all... but it dont hurt. If you build backlinks on a constant basis you can rank higher than domains that are many years old that don't promote their site. I was slack with my gifts site for the first year. Not because I was lazy about it, but just because I didn't know any better. 99% of my backlinks were built within the last few months and it did wonders for the site. I would only give age a 10% importance...
