The prices of 3 character domains are purely speculative and not really based on anything fundamental because most of them can't really be used for a website.

That being said, as long as the internet grows, the prices of 3 character domains will probably go up faster than most investments.

As well 3 character domains are somewhat of a commodity, which makes them easier to trade than most domain names.
