Spin, if the way you execute your semi-auto submission isn't to use the exact same titles/descriptions/etc. over and over again, I don't see how it can be perceived any differently from doing it manually.
The strategy I've been using is to use an assisted tool to help me submit to about 50 directories in one run, rotating between three different variations of titles/descriptions/etc. I then stop the tool, change the wording in those items around, and resume with the next 50. I always check to make sure I'm using the most appropriate category, or skipping the directory altogether if it seems my site wouldn't fit in.
Anyhow, this has just been my approach, and I'll be the first to admit I'm completely new to SEO in general and directory submission in particular, so use your best judgment as to whether or not my way makes sense.
