If I remember correctly, Google was hit with a spammer some months ago that did just that. Eventually they were banned but they did do quite a number on the search engine.

I'm not quite sure I agree with the original poster. Google might do this but I know that Yahoo does not. In fact, from what I understand, Yahoo counts each page on a website separately which is why if you do a search for a link they will pull up most or all of the pages the link shows up on on a website.
