And since you're unsure of the brand of your soundcard, try this:
-Go into the Control Panel.
-Double-Click the "Sounds and Audio Devices Properties" icon.
-In the dialog that appears, above the slider, to the right of the sound icon, the name of your sound card should be displayed.

Then find that companies' website and download the driver.
Also, what brand is the PC? If it's a generic card wired into the motherboard, you may need to visit the PC manufacters' website in order to get the driver.
