I've had some great doctors. And some lousy ones. If they don't answer questions or tell you "just TAKE the pills!" walk out and find another.
Some of my relatives are doctors. They have lots of horrific stories about their profession. They tell them all with the indifferent emotionless gaze mentioned above. After a while seeing someone in pain must become tantamount to watching the toilet flush. The challenge seems to be turning off the empathy spicket, otherwise the emotions overwhelm like a barbed wire tidal wave.
A doctor I used to see told me "I get sick about three times a month. But pediatricians have it worse; they get sick about six times a month. It's all part of the job." Then he described the medications he took almost constantly to "make it through the day." Suddenly I didn't regret never having considered thinking about ruminating on going to medical school. Not for me. Not me. Nope.
