Because our borders where not protected, and because of the dense population in the little country it would have been a historical mistake to not surrender. taking an allready lost war into the cities would have resulted in massive casualties for the Dutch population with an outcome that was allready clear to begin with.

Did you know that Rotterdam, the second biggest city in the Netherlands, was bombed untill the whole city was flattened by the nazis because one of the tiny islands didn't want to surrender? Did you know that the nazis treathened to do the same with Amsterdam if that island (Walcheren) didn't surrender and that this was the reason why those people gave in and surrendered to save Amsterdam?

Guess not.

Actually, I had read the Wiki article I linked to, so yeah I know the place was bombed. But you got to think, if you know you're living next to a bloodthirsty tyrant, why not get prepared?
