I agree with you John.
I am from India and I used to provide submissions services -no companies --but individually.
But it used to take me 2/3 days to properly submit to only 125 high quality directories that approved 50%+ submissions quickly--.
But -those India submission companies --who advertise manual submissions for cheap rates
SUCKS. Most of them --use automated softwares-- otherwise how could they submit to hundreds of directories within short time?
Are they Magicians?
HELL- NO.
So I had to leave the field --and become a directory owner myself as I personally hate automated submitting softwares.
I started a Free directory --and had every intention to keep it free-- listing quality websites. But oneday --when I was approving links - I noticed that I received 12 submissions from same IP using different e-mail IDs --
within 5 mins --which is not possible manually. Any member reading this post might verify what I am saying --by trying to submit a site to 50 directories --by using only Roboform/Firefox Form filler --and how long it takes.
I banned the IP --then and there --and `immediately turned the directory into a paid one.
That is how these services do their service.
But that does not make all the submission companies bad. But
genuine service providers are rare.
So John is 100% correct.
