You're politicizing the words. Left alone...the words themselves don't stand for that or mean that. Same goes for the word "conservative".
Conservative simply means maintaining the status quo, keeping things the same, traditional or restrained in style .
Progressive is favoring or advocating change, improvement and progress.
Liberal is openess to progress and change, tolerant, etc.
And really, don't assign the morality being legislated thing to the left-leaning parties.... the right and moderates are just as guilty (i.e. wanting to ban abortion and gay marriage, etc.). Same goes for the other issues. Both parties are just as dirty and guilty.
Personally I think anyone that throws around any of the three words as an insult are suffering from a lack of intellect.
