Also agree with you, if you are passionate about your topic, people will pick up on it, and respond positively.
Believe it or not, the world doesnt come to read your blog just because you took 15 mins to write it.
I would be interested if anyone is running google analytics on their blog (If you can I dont know) to see the stats for visitors and average time on a page, i would think they would need 10 mins to read a blog page, give or take.
Its my experience that the average human has a attention span of around 25 seconds, and i bet that there are bloggers who check the number of views and it goes something like this
"OMFG im a legend, everyone loves me, i cant believe it, i have 100 views on my blog today, omg i must be like a super editor, maby i should work for vogue, omg, i better get another blog up so they come back, quick what should i write about, omg how to keep snails of your garden, excellent, now it doesnt have to be long or smart or helpful because im famous"

7 people ended up there while looking for porn
50 people came, looked at the first 2 lines, giggled, and left
19 people came because they saw 50 other people visit the site on digg or delicious, realise that it was a mistake, left to find porn
