Actually, I heard that it went like this: (and I'm an American, so I might obviously be off)

1) Musharraf comes to power with the support of the United States, because he claims to be against Islamic extremists

2) US turns a blind eye to Musharraf because he's with us on the "war on terror"

3) Musharraf suspends democracy.

I think adam123 is right... well, I think democracy is always the right thing for people, but I think he's right in saying that other countries (OURS) need to look at what we've done to support this. The US has supported all sorts of leaders we would have condemned otherwise, because they're supporting our Iraq war. We ignore human rights violations in Turkey because they're an ally. We ignore environmental and human rights issues in China because they're the basis of our economy. We just love to set ourselves up to be dependent on bad people lately, it seems.
