Google penalized the the directories if they did not follow the Google webmaster guidelines on selling link.

What about directories that you pay to have your link put in them? Are directories going to be penalized by Google? I think Google is taking taking it for granted that they are the most used search engine.
I think I'll start using the search engines that give my websites back links.
