Another option, although not so technical and may require a little bit of work still...is use your font that you want, and then rasterize the text layer, making it able to be edited, then use the eraser tool to erase everything inside of the outline, leaving you with just the the outline. Apply a stroke under blending options and set the stroke to outside. You'll be able to adjust how thick that stroke is as well. If I'm using the terminology correct it should work, but might be a bit more difficult with the more fancy/graphical fonts.

*Just would like to note I'm no PS guru by any means and have stumbled upon things by accident sometimes, this being one of them over the years...like I said, may or may not work, but worth a shot *
