Changes in your search engine results can be due to the many of the factors that go into the Google algorithm. One of the things I have noticed happen to me is when sites that currently link to you change their site or do not archive material that your backlinks will dissappear which of course will make your score go lower. Also one of those issues can be the increasing use of "nofollow" links such as Wikipedia does. If Wikipedia shared a little love with legit websites then it would help the web overall but they don't. You can also dilute your own ranking by distributing your PageRank over your whole site via internal linking issues.
