If you are just switching hosts, then there should be no negative side effects.

If you were switching .com to .ca, then yes, that would affect you. Since your domain name is remaining the same, then there is no actual change as far as Google or anyone else can see.

Just setup your site on the new hosting before you switch DNS. The transfer will effectively be seamless.
