You are allowed to add your own content on most social bookmarking sites. Do this and it lowers your risk of spam:

Mix you content in with actual other sites you like
Put only max 50 links per account
Put only your best content

Advanced:

Make sure your boomarks are public and bookmark your bookmarks
Use bookmarks that allow bookmarking by feed: faves, yahoo web 2.0

Each bookmark site is VERY different. For instance you can throw anything at all up on Delicious or Danogo, but Newsvine is ruthless about spam and wont allow self promotion. Digg users can be unforgiving ONLY if your content is spammy - but I have never had problems with quality posts there.
