These are some great methods !
Redspace- I would read an article even if wasn't perfect if I found it interesting and useful. Some of the best travel articles are written by locals in far away countries that do not write perfect English. Something to consider.
MrCat- Good points. This is why I like to only submit my article to one directory, I am looking for one quality link, instead of a bunch or lower quality ones on copied content. Good point about bad neighborhoods, those links are avoidable and might hurt you.
Forum posting and blog commenting seem more popular than I realized. Looks like its working well for you guys too. That's good to hear.
