I don't think you need a VPS. Since most of these sites are small, a reliable reputable shared plan can handle the traffic for you. Just switch from godaddy to some quality shared plan (e.g. HostGator). However, if you don't have Linux experience, a VPS will cost you more than $40/mo.

And when your sites grow up, and the shared plan can't fit them, you can upgrade to VPS swiftly.
