Indeed.....its really hard to get visitors to join a new site specially in intial stage after launching a website but if you have some really good content then it may sure help to get more and more visitors to join you site.
If your site is properly index in google and have some good ranking so it has great chance that lots of visitor come to your site through search results and suppose a visitor come to your site through surfing on google and he impressed with your site then sure he will also tell his friends about the site and in this way you will get lots of people to join your site.......
