Domain Renewal Fee from Icann

Hi Everyone

Thank you for allowing me to post my question on your forum.

I have a domain name that I registered with Go Daddy in 2002. When the renewal came up they sent the renewal notice to an email address that I no longer use. The domain expired on 2/28 it is now 3/23 and this is the first time I realized it had expired. When I tried to renew with Godaddy they told me I had to pay a re-registry fee of $80 which is imposed by ICANN to them.

This sounds like a rip-off to me. has anyone here heard of this $80 fee before and if so is there a way to get it done cheaper by dealing directly with ICANN?

Any insight would be helpful, thanks
