It depends on the effects ...
Smudge is handy for certain things but... the problem w/smudge is... is blurs pixels significantly ... too much for many tasks ... so it really depends on the effect you are trying to produce ...
some pieces can be compromised rather significantly, if the smudge tool is chosen over some others ... whereas some effects are accomplished best w/the smudge tool.... I've found..
It just depends on the look and/or particular goal the artist is trying to achieve. Don't you think, KimOz?
