cookie duration is how long the cookie is set for on the user's computer. the cookie is what the vendor uses to track who the affiliate was. obviously the longer the cookie duration the better. so, if the program you're promoting has a cookie duration of 30 days, and someone clicks your affiliate link and purchases (or whatever is required) within 30 days then you get paid. if they don't, you don't.
