I don't believe it is a copout. I'm fiscaly conservative and socially liberal. There's no sense in my getting upset over it. I either choose to pay their expenses, or I do not.
I'm sorry this is so emotional for you. This is still a somewhat sketchy topic.
But I must honestly state that I've yet to encounter a study that conclusively finds illegal immigrants are costing the US economy more than they put into it.
I prefer to focus on the larger issues. If the system is being exploited, close the loopholes. Unlike deadbeat Americans who coast by on welfare with their 8 government funded kidlets, illegal immigrants actually put money into the economy. Is it enough? I don't know. Why single out a small subset of offenders? Why not instead fix the system so it cannot be exploited as easily?
