Twin Ring Tail Lemurs Born

Greetings.

I work part time at an Exotic Pet store, and 4 weeks ago I had the opportunity to watch our Lemurs giving birth to twins. (Both gross and amazing at the same time. ) Lemurs normally have one baby, but twins are not all that uncommon in the species.

The birth was a hard one for the mother Tiffany. Only one of the babies made it out of the sack on it's own. The other required special care as described by my co-worker Karen in the following video...

Twin Ring Tail Lemurs Born

While Karen looked after the one baby, I had my hands full with the other. Normally right after birth, the baby will cling to its mother's belly, but in this case, the little one was just a little too weak to keep it's grip. After several attempts to "re-attach" the baby to its mother, it finally had enough strength to keep hold. As cool as it was to hold a baby lemur moments after birth, I was very glad it finally clung to its mother. Hand rearing one of the amazing creatures would have been as much work as a human baby. (I'm just not the father type! lol)

Four weeks later I'm happy to say that both babies are doing fine and the parents are comfortable enough now for us to get some pics and videos. I'll be sure to share them as they become available.

All in all, a very cool experience. However, I would prefer not to go through that again. Very nerve-racking!
