For are intents and purposes, you are trying to sell Bell Peppers. Use whatever tools you see fit. Sell peppers. Only peppers.

Of course you can use fear, humor, diets or any other angle as part of the marketing ploy.

Just because its a fake product the marketing has to honest and real. It's one thing to be humorous, its another thing to not know what your talking about or just lying.

Of course, this is a graphics contest. The more the art sells the product the better. That's why I choose Bell Peppers, you have very little known strategies to choose from as opposed to say, oranges... It could have been any other ambiguous object, the point is, you have to make the user want to click through to buy... That is ultimately the point of any banner design and advertising campaign. But in our case, mostly design.
