I've used over 10 hosts in 10 years because I build and manage multiple sites, not because I had to replace a host. Actually, the site in question was fairly new and most certainly at that time would not have required a dedicated server, and hostgator is the ONLY host I've ever had to replace. You think they're okay now, just wait if you ever try to cancel. Then let's see what you think. Hostgator is in my opinion nothing more than a resource for people with no action sites and that is who they cater too (they will restrict your account quick if you are using too much resources). Try reading through the contract you agreed to for all the numerous restrictions. Oh, and if you ever violate any of them, no matter how innocently, they'll shut your site down with no warning, and not even a notification to you. They are the worst host I have ever dealt with and absolutely no regard whatsoever for you or your site operations. I paid a year in advance, but if you are on month-to-month, they may give you a little better service since they have to keep you happy to keep the money coming in. Overall, I strongly advise anyone considering hosting companies to never make the mistake I made hosting with hostgator. If you have a little no-action site that will never amount to anything, then you'll probably be okay, but if you are a serious webmaster who is looking for a reliable host, then hostgator could end up being your worst nightmare.
