masynee,

I'm not too much of an expert with computers, but I do know a thing or two about sound (audio). You're problem doesn't seem to be with your sound card. Because if there were a problem with your card, it wouldn't work or your device manager would tell you.

You may have a virus or some worm from the internet. So you may want to run a virus scan on your computer. If you don't have one you can download AVG for free from Grisoft.

You may also want to get an anti spyware program. To get rid of spyware, malware and some worms. Grisoft has a free spyware program for WinXP. But there are others for earlier versions of Windows like Win98. Adaware Se Personal Build by Lavasoft is the one I use. You just have to update it manually. But new updates (definition files) are always posted at Lavasoft's Security Center.

There is another thing you may want to check. You just might have too much audio or/and video on your computer. Which might be slowing it down causing the stutters. Check your disk space, and try and remember where you've put all your audio and video files. You may want to transfer some of it to cd, dvd, or an external hard drive. Then delete the original files from your computer. That may solve your playback problems. Hope this helps!
